%X The aim of this paper is to introduce roots of multi-agent approaches in economic theory. From the beginning, the opinion that economic system should be investigated on the basis of comprehension to its basic units was expressed by many scientists. Friedrich A. Hayek and Herbert A. Simon are two important scientists who may be designated as predecessors of multi-agent modeling. They incorporated similar principles as applied by multi-agent system approaches into their works before it was possible to deal with these principles through artificial intelligence. This paper links ideas of Hayek and Simon with multi-agent modeling, common principles and ideas are identified.

%X Twelve morphometric variables of Cardaminopsis halleri individuals from four sites in Upper Silesia province were analyzed to establish the pattern of interpopulational relations. Two hundred plants were collected from two very polluted areas (near zinc-lead and zinc smelters) as well as from two other sites in unpolluted areas within the same bioclimatic region. Stem size, dimensions of leaves and rosettes, as well as flower and seed numbers and individual dry weights were studied using standard biometric methods. Cluster analysis indicated overall differences among populations. Those four populations are different with respect to all variables. Discriminant function analysis confirmed seed number as the most important variable in the evaluation of interpopulational variability.

%X This work investigates the anti- inflammatory activity of methanol extracts of four endemic Stachys ( Labiatae) taxa from the Balkans: S. beckeana Dorfler & Hayek, S. anisochila Vis. et Pancic, S. plumosa Griseb., and S. alpina L. subsp. dinarica Murb. As a model of acute inflammation, carrageenan- induced paw edema in rats was used. Extracts, applied at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg/ kg p. o., exhibited dose- dependent activity. S. beckeana and S. anisochila extracts were the most active ones ( ED50 154.52 and 162.24 mg/ kg, respectively), with the activity comparable with indomethacin at doses of 2 and 4 mg/ kg. S. plumosa extract has shown less- pronounced anti- inflammatory effect ( ED50 220.81 mg= kg). Extract of S. alpina subsp. dinarica had the lowest efficiency, attenuating inflammation less than 50%.

LEGITIMACY
%X The problem of policing is often portrayed as providing sufficient personnel to sate demand. Pluralism, however, complicates the issue since the public disagree among themselves over which activities or individuals should be policed. In turn, police priorities may differ from these demands, inciting public discontent. In these circumstances, how can public policing sustain its legitimacy? Lessons can be learnt from how political theories have grappled with pluralism and legitimacy. This article analyses how three major political theorists, John Rawls, Michael Walzer and Friedrich Hayek, dealt with these issues. It mines their insights to nominate the principle of non-domination, defined as freedom from interference on an arbitrary basis, as best suited to justify policing in an era of pluralism.
