We're trying something new for our September update - a video! Let us know if you like this format in the comments.

Embedded below is a video we sent out to our Supporting Partners about the engineering initiatives that their support funded in September.

Here's what you'll learn about:

  • The issue fork and merge request beta - which makes Drupal contribution faster and easier, especially for new contributors.
  • The lazy-load initiative - which will make all Drupal sites on 9.1 and beyond faster.
  • Composer 2 support - Drupal now fully supports being built with Composer 2, which is much faster and less memory-hungry than Composer 1.
  • The Auto-Updates contribution week, which the DA held with community contributors from inside and outside of Drupal.
  • New efforts to match make organizations who want to contribute with initiatives that need help.

Could you please add transcripts for accessibility? It's also less attention hog and I can read it anywhere.

Thanks for the suggestion!

You asked if we like the new format. In short: no. I can skim through a text post by headline easily and pick out the sections I care about to read the details. But to get information from a video, I have to watch the whole thing. So my vote would be to revert to the old format next month.

Noted. Thank you!

I second that.

Thanks so much!

I would also really appreciate transcripts...

I would suggest the previous format, with the video, transcriptions and on the subject list add the video time associated with it.

The video shows some web pages, would be nice to have the links, so we could get more information on the subjects.

I guess that, that way everyone will be pleased.

First of all, I'd like to express my gratitude for preparing these posts. I also recognize the effort you put into trying something new and make this issue more trendy by recording a video. Good job!

However, I join the others preferring a written and scannable article. Thanks Tim, keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback! Looks like the all-text format is the favorite, so I'll likely return to that, or at the least provide full transcripts.

I think giving quick demonstrations (like when you showed issue forks/merge requests and how that has changed) is where the video is powerful. I don't think it was overly long, but I'd say 5-10min is a good time depending on what needs to be covered. And as noted by others, a downloadable transcription and links covered would be great. Personally, I like the video format. It gives you another option.
