Bug Squad: Additional tasks

Drupal 7 will no longer be supported after January 5, 2025. Learn more and find resources for Drupal 7 sites

The primary purpose of the Bug Squad is to verify and assign issues, but there are many additional tasks that can be very helpful.

Clean up the postponed queue

Maintainers spend a lot of time marking issues postponed (maintainer needs more info). Users will often not notice they need to provide more information, or fail to reset the issue status to active.

Issues that are postponed (maintainer needs more info) for more than 30 days without receiving an answer may be moved to closed (won't fix) or closed(unable to reproduce)as appropriate due to lack of submitter response.

Additionally, many issues get marked needs work and postponed and then sit there because nobody ever sees them again. Generally these can either be closed or reactivated, depending on whether or not they should get someone's attention.

Reviewing patches

Are you comfortable with code or applying patches? Feel free to try some patch reviews! Views generally follows the same coding standards as Core, and you can follow the processes outlined on the Reviewing patches page. You can test to make sure a patch applies, follows code standards, and does what it's supposed to do without breaking things it shouldn't. Even if you're not comfortable marking a patch RTBC, you can test, and then assign an issue to merlinofchaos or dereine for a final review.

Testing

If you're a QA type, and you like to test, go for it! Likewise, if you're any good at writing tests, please feel free to submit tests against the 7.x branch of code. We still need a lot of automated testing for Views.

Unassigned tasks

Unassigned tasks are task that no one has picked up. This could be documentation improvements, new features, or other miscellaneous things. If you want to help, take a look at the unassigned tasks list and find something you can help with. Any task that is not already assigned is available for anyone in the community to work on (create documentation, patches, etc); even if a task is assigned, feel free to ask the assignee if they'd like help if it's something you are interested in.
