The Content Access module is a layer on top of access control system that is provided by default by the core.

It provides more fine-grained access control i.e. it provides the following modalities:

  • Each content type can have its own default content access settings by role.
  • Optionally you can enable role based access control settings per content node.
  • Access control can be further customized per user (if you have the ACL module enabled).

In addition to its additional settings, it also exposes the Drupal core permissions on the settings page, so you just have access to all node content access settings from a single page.
