Release announcements should be published in the About Drupal blog for important and milestone releases, specifically:

  • Major releases (D8, D9, etc.)
  • Minor releases (8.x, 7.x) - maximum 4 posts per year (2 each for Drupal 7 and Drupal 8)
  • Security releases (all) - maximum 12 per year if one happens every month
  • Some release candidate announcement (e.g. RC1, but not RC2)

See #2680023: Drupal core release front page presentation for ongoing discussion of the core release communication strategy.

How to create new release announcement:

  1. To post in the About Drupal blog, you must be an editor for this section. Contact tvn or bradleyfields if you need this access.
  2. Visit https://www.drupal.org/about and click the Post link under "Add content" in the right sidebar.
  3. Use the following settings:
    • Unpublished
    • Promoted to front page
    • Full HTML
    • Comments closed
    • Do not use "cover image" yet -- attach images in the normal field.
    • Path alias. Should follow the pattern: blog/drupal-8-1-0.
  4. Save the draft post.

Release announcements layout:

Release announcement should have a single column layout with a single green button CTA. (An exception is security releases, which may need two green download buttons if the security release affects both Drupal 7 and 8.)
