Exploring an idea to achieve contributed SDCs

If you've been working with #drupal in particular with #theming and #sdc this session might be of interest to you.

For a while I've been wondering if it would be possible to provide a mechanism to contribute components. The usual answer is to either create a module or theme. Though I know it works and solves the problem, I am not a fan of that approach.

Would it be possible to have components on a separate folder outside of themes or modules and have those be available to Drupal? Like a similar idea to how recipes work? Would it be possible to have project browser find SDCs?
I don't know, but on this session I will try out a few ideas.
