A Skilled editor should be able to do the following:
- Collaborate with content writers, editors and other contributors
- Become adequately familiar with the subject of the piece to be edited
- Confirm accuracy of information with primary sources, adding citations where appropriate
- Find and fix language usage errors like grammar, style, spelling, technical terms, punctuation, sentence structure, ambiguity
- Find and fix stylistic departures from the Drupal.org Style guide and its referenced usage manuals
- Adjust tone and reading level to be appropriate to the assumed audience
- Find and consolidate repetitive content
- Use the tools required for the documentation (e.g., Drupal edit pages for drupal.org pages or Markdown for technical documentation stored with code)
An Expert editor should additionally be able to do the following:
- Add links to related documentation within and outside of drupal.org
- Add tags and related content
- Rewrite text for clarity and simplicity
- Adjust the information architecture of documentation sections
- Be familiar with best practices for website readability
- Replace documentation for third-party libraries with references to official documentation
- Delegate editorial and writing tasks
- Update the Drupal.org Style guide as needed
