A meetup is a periodic, informal gathering of individuals interested in Drupal, aimed at building local knowledge and community. The meetup organizer schedules, plans, and publicizes the meetups.

Impact:

Depending on the size of the group, a meetup could be a time for people to ask questions and get answers from others in the group, a social time, or there could be more formal presentations on a topic by one or more group members each meeting.

Accountable for:
  • Picking a date, time, and location for the meetup
  • Making an agenda for the meetup, which could include a speaker, question and answer time, "lightning talk" time, and/or social time
  • Publicizing the meetup so that community members can attend
  • Hosting the meetup

See Organizing meetups for details.

How to get started:

Seek out a local user group and attend a few meetings. Most groups are open to help from people with a broad range of skills. Introduce yourself to organizers and ask what kind of help they might need. Offer to help with future meetings.

If there are no user group meetings in your area, consider starting one. There are many long-standing groups who can give you help and suggestions.
