Here is a checklist/timeline/agenda for participants at a contribution event. Some items are more applicable to large events than smaller events, and some items only apply to in-person events:
- If possible, and if you plan to test or develop patches during the event, install a local development environment before traveling to the event
- Arrive at the event
- Name tags: use a thick marker to write your name on a sticker name tag that can be placed on your shirt (the badges hang below the table edge and people cannot see them)
- Attend new contributor workshop or watch the new contributor workshop video
- Find table/mentor
- Join the #contribute channel in Drupal Slack (some events may use DrupalChat.me or other text chat channels). Say hello to others at your event.
- Get stack of task cards and select a task, or ask a mentor to suggest a task
- Log in to drupal.org
- Fill out your drupal.org profile
- Turn on email notification for issues you follow (notifications setting in drupal.org user profile)
- Click follow button on issue(s) you are working on
