Here is a checklist/timeline/agenda for participants at a contribution event. Some items are more applicable to large events than smaller events, and some items only apply to in-person events:

  1. If possible, and if you plan to test or develop patches during the event, install a local development environment before traveling to the event
  2. Arrive at the event
  3. Name tags: use a thick marker to write your name on a sticker name tag that can be placed on your shirt (the badges hang below the table edge and people cannot see them)
  4. Attend new contributor workshop or watch the new contributor workshop video
  5. Find table/mentor
  6. Join the #contribute channel in Drupal Slack (some events may use DrupalChat.me or other text chat channels). Say hello to others at your event.
