Oxfam work directly with communities and local partners to support people to make their way out of poverty and exercise their social, economic, political and civil rights. Oxfam Ireland is one of 17 Oxfams working together in 92 countries and has 51 shops across Ireland, north and south, with over 1,000 volunteers delivering real change to the lives of people affected by poverty.
Oxfam Ireland was a 2013 Blue Drop Awards finalist for Best Fundraising Website Built With Drupal.
Annertech started on the Oxfam Ireland project in August 2012 and worked alongside their in-house designers to build the new www.oxfamireland.org design. The existing architecture consisted of multiple websites on two different platforms, WordPress-MU and Interspire CMS. We replaced all of this with one single Drupal 7 site.
The main aims of the project were to:
- Simplify and unify the system structure to increase the level of donations, make it easier to manage and reduce costs.
- Build a fully responsive site with a navigation that is easy to use on either mobile, tablet or desktop.
- Provide a new layout system allowing Oxfam Ireland to create a variety of custom page layouts. This allows them to publish their text, image and video content in a variety of ways, always communicating in the most effective manner on mobile, tablet or desktop.
- Enable users to donate more easily to Oxfam's causes by providing them with single and regular donation features. These features support both Euro and Sterling currencies allowing donors to give what they can using their credit/debit card details, PayPal, or by setting up a direct debit.
- Provide a multi-currency shopping cart, again allowing customers to pay by credit/debit card or PayPal. The shop contains a mixture of products, from Unwrapped gifts such as a 'clutch of chicks' to 'mosquito nets', to selected items from the Oxfam Bridal and Oxfam Home & Furniture retail shops.
- Showcase wedding dresses and other items available to purchase through Oxfam's retail stores in dedicated Oxfam Bridal and Home & Furniture sections on the website.
- Encourage people to participate in campaigns by emailing their local TD or Minister asking for them to take action. Petition functionality was also provided.
- Integrate all donation and campaign actions with their existing Raiser's Edge CRM through the use of custom data exports.
As part of the project, we were also able to provide additional features for existing modules and contribute them back to the larger Drupal community:
- Upgraded Activism module to Drupal 7 #1734816: Any plans for this Drupal 7?
- Added support for Express Checkout to the PayPal module. #1457926: Add support for Express Checkout
- Provided the ability to promote countries to the drop of the country drop-down in the Addressfield module #1816030: Promote certain "preferred" countries to the top of the list
- Implemented a schedule an ecard feature #367225: Add ability to schedule e-card sending for the Ecard module, along with adding collection notifications #1802694: notification of when an ecard is picked up not available in d7, reports on ecards sent using Views module and ability for admins to resend ecards #1817496: Views reports and ability for admin to resend ecards
This combined with various other bug fixes and patches, means Annertech contributed back over 30 patches to the Drupal community.
