Drupal Board meeting 2010-December 1 Started at 10:03 Drupalcon Slides and handouts available from Tiffany (see mail to association@drupal.org)

we have a special guest: Megan! Fundraiser. One of our two official hires Oct. 1.

Megan: A couple of things. I had worked for different software companies large and small. My last stint was working at HP. They said they'd let go of many people. I came to the table with several companies and in 9 months. Then took a break, worked for New Jersey Transit, oversaw market dept., move an entire city in and out of work every day, gave me a whole new perspective. When I decided that was done, started up a business development group to fund, also used a lot of channels for grants. Then said I'd done all I could do here. Heard about Drupal because my husband is similar to Cary. Scott is responsible for a library network of 42 libraries. So I had heard of Drupal. In one month, we have raised $470,000USD of the $700,000 goal for Drupalcon. Kieran giving many tips. We just signed Green Geeks as a hosting partner, which will give us a consistent sponsorship amount per month. Larger companies like Acquia interested in Drupalcon, creating more of a marketing campaign with the Association.

Jacob: this is a board meeting so we can go into board-only discussion to get into specifics of contracts.

Companies are entrusting us, part of their competitive advantage, so for now we have been working on other forms of revenue that are not Drupalcon. We are totally fine but need to shore up our revenue. We have one company funding the Affiliate hosting is ads on the d.o/hosting page. Branching into advertising as the next step. This takes a lot of up front time. But once these are in place, we can move on to other things.

Jacob: Megan is going to the Acquia business summmit in SF and doing a walking tour of SF to meet potential sponsors in person. Thanks Megan!

This meeting is not an emergency, but called in haste. We have to choose the cities now. That's why this meeting was called. The group was created with a mix of PMs, Board members, and community members at large. Cary as Ex-oficio member, Jacob Redding as a staff representative to be replaced with the actual staff person once they were hired. Earl Miles and Greg Knaddison were the PM representatives for the DA, EmmaJane Hogbin acted as the community member, and Geroge helping out.

Timeline (proposed) July 22, 2010: Blog post prepared for Association.drupal.org/Planet about new process; Chicago team will provide preliminary list of understood responsibilities (and exclusions) for the organizing team July 22, 2010: Rankings open.

Survey posted on g.d.o home page and NAROC group. Denver--selected as first choice. This is our recommendation, but because Denver wasn't available when we looked at this we had some alternate scenarios. That's where our recommendations came from. Denver has available venue in 2012. Large, established community, very excited. Denver has been putting on drupalcamp since 2006. Have shown a relatively strong community here. People are interested in travelling toDenver for a Drupal event. One of top 10 cities in US in terms of population, large businesses, tech folks. Feel like Denver is a great choice, and happy to answer any questions.

The recommendations are separate: 2012 Denver Jacob: vote on

"Do you approve to host Drupacon 2012 in Denver, Colorado?" The expectation would be about 4,000 target.

No: three Abstain: five Yes: one
