The Drupal Association is always on the lookout for great people to join its Board of Directors. We used a nominating committee to seek out and communicate with potential candidates for inclusion on the Board of Directors.

More about the Board of Directors

The Board of Directors establishes policy, hires and manages an executive director, reviews and approves the budget and financial reports, and participates in fundraising. Read more about our governance structure.

The board meets electronically once per month. Directors must be prepared to commit to at least 15 hours per month to the Board and related activities. Three Board meetings per year are held in-person and directors are expected to travel to these. We attempt to have thse coincide with DrupalCons whenever possible.

Director positions are not paid, and directors should expect to pay their own expenses in most instances although reasonable expenses may be reimbursed.

We are looking for a diverse board and will consider the following factors when selecting candidates:

  • Geographic diversity
  • Industry diversity: the perspectives of various sectors are valuable (government, publishing, education, not-for-profit, corporate, etc.)

Skill sets

  • Drupal Ecosystem: the board should reflect the various perspectives of the members of our community (volunteers, small shops, large shops, large integrators, in-house teams, designers, end-users, etc.)
  • Outside perspectives: FOSS at large, legal, accountant

Experience in any of the following areas is desirable;

  • Non-profit boards
  • Event management
  • Business
  • Marketing and communications
  • Law
  • Finance
  • Accounting
  • Fundraising
  • Technology

Experience and involvement with the Drupal project and community are desirable, but not required.

Financial Support

Board members have an extraordinary opportunity to drive forward the mission and vision of the Drupal Association, and our programs which support the Drupal project, and to ensure that we consider our community in all its diversity. However, we are very aware that not every community member is in a financial position to travel to board events, and/or may need financial assistance for other services like translation or childcare. For that reason, the board has always had a policy of providing financial support to those members (community elected or otherwise) who cannot afford the cost of travel to board events. At the same time, we do ask that those board members who do have the ability to support themselves to do so, particularly if they have a sponsoring organization in the Drupal ecosystem.
