What is Drupal CMS?
Drupal CMS is a ready-to-use platform for marketing teams, content creators and site builders built on Drupal 11 core. When you install Drupal CMS, you get a set of out-of-the-box tools such as advanced media management, SEO tools, AI-driven website building, consent management, analytics, search, automatic updates and more.
What is Drupal Starshot?
Drupal Starshot is the codename or initiative that Drupal CMS is built in.
Is Drupal CMS a fork or rewrite of Drupal?
No. Drupal CMS is based on the strong foundation of Drupal core, relying on strategic initiatives such as Recipes, Project Browser and Automatic Updates to achieve a great out-of-the-box experience. It comes installed with common functionality pre-configured by default, along with optional additions, via contributed modules and recipes. It enables people without Drupal experience to easily create a new Drupal site and extend it with pre-packaged recipes, all using their browser.
What are Recipes?
Recipes are a new feature in Drupal that automate site building and configuration steps. In technical terms they are a combination of preconfigured Drupal extensions. Recipes can depend on other recipes, they are composable with other recipes and unlike distributions, do not lock the site in. The eventual goal is that Drupal core itself will offer up recipes instead of install profiles.
Is Drupal CMS a distribution (or install profile) of Drupal?
No. Drupal CMS uses recipes instead, which are a lot more flexible than distributions.
Will Drupal CMS replace Drupal core?
No. Drupal core is a strong, stable basis for Drupal CMS and is not going away.
Can I migrate my existing site to Drupal CMS?
You don't need to. Since Drupal CMS is based on Drupal core, all Drupal 11 sites can take advantage of new features and enhancements by applying any of the recipes from Drupal CMS. If you're still on Drupal 10, you may need to upgrade to apply some of the recipes.
Who is making decisions about Drupal CMS?
Drupal CMS has a leadership team separate from Drupal core and a Drupal CMS Advisory Council advising the general direction with various roles and personas represented.
Where is the Drupal CMS code?
Users should use https://drupal.org/project/cms to get started. The development repository for Drupal CMS contributors is at https://drupal.org/project/drupal_cms.
How often will releases be made?
Drupal CMS releases operate independently of Drupal core releases, allowing for greater flexibility in delivering updates. We plan to release a new feature version at least every three months. Since Drupal CMS leverages contributed modules and recipes, innovation can happen rapidly. Whenever a contributed module in Drupal CMS is updated, existing sites can apply the update at any time, and new sites will start with the latest versions without needing a Drupal CMS release.
Where can I try Drupal CMS
The Drupal Association offer a Drupal CMS trial with a partner. Trial sites are available for four hours and do not offer on-demand installation of projects.
Will Drupal.org provide hosted (SaaS) offerings?
Drupal.org itself has no plans currently to offer SaaS hosting for Drupal, however there are and will be offerings from companies providing such functionality.
