Drupal™ is a registered trademark of Dries Buytaert.

The Drupal trademark—i.e. the word "Drupal", whether or not in capitals—is owned and controlled by Dries Buytaert, who cooperates with the Drupal Association and local non-profit associations to foster the use of the Drupal software.

Although you are encouraged to use the Drupal trademark (and the official Drupal logo (official link to be included when released by the Drupal Association), which is itself a use of the Drupal trademark) for your own purposes, you must first obtain a license. You can either obtain this license automatically, or through a license grant procedure [as explained in the full trademark policy]...

Copyright

The Drupal brand materials provided by the Drupal Association to support the Drupal project are themselves based upon a license to use the trademark held by Dries Buytaert.

The copyrights for the Drupal brand materials—which include all variations of the Drupal, Drupal Association, and DrupalCon logos—are held by the Drupal Association.

When the Drupal brand materials are aggregated together with another work, they retain the full protection of their trademark and copyright terms. This means that when these brand materials are distributed in aggregate with the Drupal software itself, which is licensed under the GPL v2, the brand materials do not inherit the terms of the GPL v2, but retain their own terms and usage restrictions per this policy.

Spirit of this policy

The intention of this policy is to support the use of the Drupal brand materials to promote the Drupal software, while preventing the brand from being altered, defaced, or used in any context other than in reference to the official Drupal project. It is also intended to prevent the Drupal brand from being used for unauthorized commercial purposes.

It is not the intention of this policy to prevent the use of the Drupal brand in any "nominative fair use" context, nor to prevent the brand materials from being used in the promotion of and advocacy for Drupal as a software project.

We encourage service providers in the Drupal business ecosystem to refer to the Drupal project using the official Drupal brand materials. For example, a hosting company is encouraged to use the official Drupal logo in a listing of installable software on their hosting platform.

Restrictions on use

  1. The brand materials may be used in the Drupal software itself. (e.g: as part of the admin ui).
  2. Creation of derivative works based on the brand materials is not allowed without an explicit grant from the Drupal Association.
  3. The brand materials may be used to promote the affiliation or endorsement of the Drupal Association or the Drupal project only when such affiliation or endorsement is authorized.
  4. The brand materials may not be used to promote products or services other than Drupal without an explicit grant from the Drupal Association.
  5. The brand materials may not be used to promote software that is not free and open source. However, it may be used when promoting the ability of Drupal to integrate with open or proprietary independent software vendors (ISVs).
  6. The brand materials may not be used for any illegal, defamatory or humiliating purposes, or any other purpose that may negatively impact the Drupal Association or Drupal software project.

The Druplicon

The Druplicon is a community mascot that has been remixed and reused throughout Drupal's history. It is not subject to these trademark and copyright policies. The Druplicon is licensed under the GPL v2 and may be used according to those terms.

Drupal community events are encouraged to use or remix the Druplicon to promote their activities and events.

This policy may be changed at any time, and the canonical version of the policy shall be the one hosted on Drupal.org. You accept that all licenses accorded under this policy are non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sub-licensable, revocable at any time, and subject to changes in policy. Hence, changes in this policy may cause permissions to be revoked or made dependent on additional obligations.

Any changes to this policy will enter into force fourteen (14) days after publication on Drupal.org.

If any provision of this policy would be found by any court or administrative body of competent jurisdiction to be invalid or unenforceable, the invalidity or unenforceable of such provision shall not affect the other provisions of this policy, so that all other provisions shall remain in full force and effect. In such case, the invalid or unenforceable provision shall be replaced by a valid or enforceable provision that achieves to the greatest extent possible the economic, legal and commercial objectives of the invalid or unenforceable provision.
